Today, I had a very interesting Biology lesson! I decided to share this story with everyone! It is based on a true story. I think they made it into a documentary. Not sure thought.
This story is about Inheritance, genes and cystic fibrosis.
Allele N- no cystic fibrosis (Dominant)
Allele n- cystic fibrosis (Recessive)
Mom Dad
They had 3 sons. 2 of the sons were normal but their newborn had cystic fibrosis! The parents were pretty upset sp they consulted their doctor why their 3rd child had this disease.
The doctor suspected that it might be because both parents are carriers or a mutuation in the genes. So, they decided to test it out. Both the parents had to do some genetic testing to determine the alleles that they had and this was what the doctor found...
Mom (Nn) Dad (NN)
Interesting huh??? So how come the 3rd son had cystic fibrosis?
The answer is... she had an affair with another man and that man happened to be a carrier (Nn)!!!
Anyway, the dad was so shocked that he doubted whether the other 2 sons belonged to him. So, they had to do a DNA test on those boys and this was what the doctor found....
only the 1st son belonged to him. The 2nd and 3rd son belonged to his wife's lover!!!!
Omg, can you imagine fathering another son who is not yours! His wife is TERRIBLE and she is really stupid for asking for that genetic test! Anyway, he divorced her in the end! Good on him! lol!
My teacher was trying to explain the importance of inheritance and Mendel's experiment! lol! I think the whole class got her point!lol! Point taken!
